Thursday 24th June - bike ***** - Long two rivers, Deben to the Orwell including breakfast at the water ski jetty – sunny and hot.

With the weather cracking up tomorrow and the decorating done in our front room we were keen to get out early on our bikes this morning for breakfast at the water ski jetty on the banks of the River Deben:) Up at six and despite of Mags bad back we decided to head out, I packed breakfast and we were on the cliff top at 6.36 with the sea like a mill pool, paddle boarders and open water swimmers were already out in force! Down onto Felixstowe prom where you always meet a nicer bunch of people first thing. The flower beds and spa gardens are in full bloom as we head to the Fludgers and then around to The Dip from now on we see very few people having the best of Suffolk all to ourselves with the sky a deep blue with hardly a cloud and a great temperature:) The poppies care getting a little past their best but still look great and I can’t pass without taking a few pics, even managing to get one on ITV’s About Anglia weather for the second day running! Felixstowe Ferry was again looking it’s best as we ride around the boat yard, you can never have enough pics of boat reflections! Out onto the River Deben path which was not too bumpy but is getting fairly overgrown but it is good for Pippets, Reed Buntings and spotted three egrets in a field. We thought we saw a Great White Egret in the distance but it turned out to be a Heron, just shows the sort of birdwatchers we are! We reach the picnic benches at the water ski jetty an hour and ten minutes after we set off but I do stop a lot to take photos, luckily Mag is very patient:) The jetty is now at an odd angle having lost 3 to 4 sections and it is only a matter of time before it is washed away! We enjoy our Weetabix and fruit with a cuppa in the peace and quiet, not that many birds, a few oyster catchers, gull, shell ducks and a squadron of cormorants. Well rested we continue and with Mags back feeling slightly better, must be the paracetamol working we bump our way past Ramsholt ending up at Kirton creek, just mud with the tide low! We see a herd of lovely black calves before turning inland using farm tracks and footpaths through fields of wheat and potatoes mainly coming out by Kirton Church. Carrying onto Trimley and back to Felixstowe along our favourite tree lined route, sadly no deer today! At Felixstowe docks Mag tacks the route to Morrisons and home while I carry onto the View point on the River Orwell just in time to see the bright yellow Harwich foot ferry! Then onto Landguard reserve past the newly refurbished jetty and back along the prom and home. What a great bike ride, out for 4 hours 45 minutes covering over 21 miles enjoying the absolute best that Suffolk has to offer, just love living here!
Home in time for a cuppa, put everything back in our newly decorated front room, exercises in the garden then lunch, read and doze in the afternoon! Top day :)
